Pikillacta, which means "The Town of Fleas" in Quechua, is an archaeological site of great importance in the Southern Valley of Cusco. It was built by the Wari civilization between the years 100 and 1200 A.D. and is distinguished by its massive walls and unique architecture, which served as a model for later Andean cultures, such as the Incas.

馃搷 Location of Pikillacta: Only 30 km from Cusco

Located in the district of Oropesa (Quispicanchi province), Pikillacta is just 30 kilometers southeast of Cusco, at about 3,350 meters above sea level. This archaeological site spans 50 hectares of history and natural beauty.

Here you can explore a series of impressive structures and platforms that showcase the grandeur of the Wari civilization:

  • Qaranqayniyuj: A semi-circular settlement that will leave you in awe with its complexity and structure.

  • Choqepucjio: One of the most majestic constructions, featuring two or three-story buildings, some made of stone and adobe.

  • Urpicancha: Known as the “House of the Birds,” this platform is a unique architectural spectacle.

  • Kunturqaqa: The “Rock of the Condors,” an impressive rock formation that stands out for its peculiar shape.

  • Amarupata Platforms: A mystical place where serpents were said to be abundant, with functioning water channels still in place.
